My current event is called "Are once-happy boomers behind rise in midlife suicide?" It tells that elderly have had the highest suicide rates, but now 45-64 is age group with highest rate. Some factors of this may include economic woes, depression, or other medical problems.

This has impacted society, because the baby-boomer generation has created a rise in middle age suicides. Some of the reason this rise occured was because of the lagging economy.

My current event is talking about,Hungary: Toxic red sludge has reached the Danube. The toxic red sludge that bursted out of Hungarian factory's reservoir wrecked three villages and also three rivers, while it finally made its way to the Danube.

I personally think that they need to find a way to clean this up and get the villages restored. Many people in that town lost trust for the resevoir. I think that its going to take time to get that cleaned up, just for the fact that it spread such a large amount.

My current event is called "Most Californians oppose legalizing marijuana:poll".Most people thought that California would be the first US state to legalize marijuana. But it right now it looks like the state is divided evenly on the issue. Most Democrats are for legalization but aren't as consistant as the Republicans who are almost all against the legalization of marijuana.

I think that if California were to legalize marijuana it would spread throughout the country. Because of the equal split between sides I think the poll will be really close. If it becomes legal there could be dangers, but there are also dangers that come with having alcohol legal.

My current event is titled: "80-Foot Pregnant Whale Washes Up in California"
An 80ft blue whale washed up on a California shore last weekend. The whale was dead before it hit the shore but it was also joined by its fetus that was 17ft long. This event has never happened before and the last time a whale itself washed up on shore was in 1979. Scientists say that the whale possibly collided with a large boat and that’s what caused the death but they aren’t for sure.

This has impacted society because everyone in the area is blocking up the highway trying to get a look at the whales. It also is stunning since it has been over 30 years since the last whale washed up on shore. However that one, from what I read in the article, was only a skeleton while this one still has flesh.

No rain in the last week has helped farmers to harvest their crops. The agricultare department says a week of dry weather has helped dry out the soil from a wet september. The corn and bean average is slightly behind and farmers have planted 76 percent of the wheat crop which is also slightly behind in the 5 year average. South Dakotas pasture land is rated 65 percent which is good or excellent conditions. I believe that this is a good push for farmers and it'll help society by keeping people in the work force and being able to make food for familys across america

A toxic red sudge leak in Hungary reached the Danube River. The leak flowed from an aluminum plant reservoir that bursts on Monday. It has reached the continents second largest river. Dobson, a top disaster official said the ph levels have decreased and the river is more safe now. About 250 people have been evacuated from their homes. It killed two children a one year old and a three year old. It also killed an elderly women and a 35 year old man.

This event has impacted society by causing people to lose their home and their loved ones. The long term consequences of this event are unsure and they do not know how long it will be till it is fully safe to live there again. Costs will also be an issue to pay for the damages and the funerals.

it has obviosly affected us because some of the people over there dying is our family and we want them to be back home and safe

A group of Iraq war veterans are gathering in Washington D.C. to protest deploying wounded soldiers into war zones. They are protesting the soldiers' right to heal, and they hope not to be denied and ignored. Redeploying soldiers with physical and mental injuries has led to many suicides!

As the article said, deploying wounded soldiers is causing many suicides. It's putting stress on the soldiers and worrying their families. The protest is giving the government the chance to "recognize their right to heal, or continue to deny it."

many of the 392,000 have been criminals, and i think that this is a good way to go. targeting criminals in perticular meens that the dangerous illegal immigrants will be out much sooner than the more harmless ones.

My current event is called "Afghan War: In 10th year, no end in sight." As the war rages on over in Afghanistan, we are spending more and more money on bodies and equipment: around 5.7 billion a year, actually. It first started out as payback to the Taliban for the 9/11 attack but has grown into something unimaginable.

I think this has an impact on society because we have troops over there who are giving their lives for their country and barely anyone back at home seems interested. We are growing weaker and we dont even know it.

My current event is titled "Obama to campaign in Maryland, Illinois." In this article Obama is already trying to get votes from the "hard" states, so he will have it easier when election for presidency comes around again. Obama says that they cant just sulk and sit back.

I think it is ridiculous on how much people in politics have to campain in an election. It sometimes gets to be too much especially in the months before the voters get to vote. I do think however that campaining early is probably the best thing, so people know who they are voting for when they have to vote.

My current event is called 'I am guilty': Mom-to-be slain, baby stolen. It is about an Oregon women, Korena Roberts, she killed a pregnant women and cut her abdomen open and took her baby. Robert's boyfriend found her at home in the bathroom sitting in the tub with the baby covered in blood. The baby was said to never have took a breath of life. Roberts pleaded guilty but is sentenced to life in prison.

I think this is crazy. That someone would kill a pregnant women so she could take her baby and keep him as her own. The baby didn't even live. Now she has to spend the rest of her life in prison and she will always remember that she killed two people that day.

On Thursday October 7, 2010 in Malaysia, a newborn baby died after been taken by a monkey from her family's livingroom. The four year olds body was found outside of her family's home Negri Sembilan. The monkey had taken the little girl up on top of a roof of a single-story house and it dropped her after mistaking her for food. The girl, who had been left alone in the room, had bite marks on her face and neck. Wildlife personel fatally shot the monkey which reamind by the house. They thought that the monkey was probly attracted to a family pet monkey inside the house that the family kept in a cage. http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2010/10/07/world/main6935417.shtml?tag=stack

I think that this a sad lost for the little girls family and that the society should be aware of these kind of animals that are in there area and that the animal should be contained.

My current event is called, "Poverty is becomming a suburban problem now." In this article they talk about how the number of poor people in the subarbs has jumped to 37.4%. After the recession in 2007 there numbers of poor has increased to 1.8 million. People move to the subarbs for better schools, jobs, housing, and security. But now as incomes are dropping people are finding it harder to make ends meet. 1 in 7 people are in the poverty line. The unemployment rates are remaining at 10%.

I think this has an impact on society because people think things are better in subarbs. But now things are going down hill for them also. The recession has impacted everyone.

This Article is titled "Obama's Here, Rahm's Quiet" The article talks about how Obama is in Chicago helping fellow democrats follow in his footsteps in taking political power. Now if you know anything about Chicago politics, They are mob run, which isn't good. In the article, it talks about how Obama is pledging money to all the liberals running in the race. When our country is going more in debt day by day, I don't think the government should be spending money on making things worse by adding more liberals into the mix.

This effects society, by showing how prominent school violence is becoming. Children should feel safe at school, and not have to worry about anything else, but what they have to learn.

A team of 16 is being trained to rescue the 33 miners trapped in Chile. Ovidio the teams leader said, "this is one of the most difficult assignments." Two men will be selected to go into the mine while four more will assist on the surface. They will be working 12 hour shifts.

I think this impacts the society because, these miners have been trapped for a couple months and now people are stepping up and are willing to help rescue the 33 miners.

Chile list says which miners should go first, last. My current event is about the chile miners being rescued. The rescue tunnel will reach them anywhere from 2 to 7 days. After completing the tunnel they will inspect the hole to see if it will be safe enough to use. The officals may have to line the hole with 1/2 inch steel tubes. the ride up will take about 15 to 20 minutes if everything goes well. the best describre will go first to tell the following miners what problems they should expect. Then it will be the older miners and the ones with health problems and the crew leader will go last. i think it has impacted society because nobody really expects that to happen, and its a reminder that it can

My current event is the fact that South Dakota Senator John Thune is thinking about opposing Barrack Obama for the 2012 Presidency. He hasn't made any formal steps, like hiring a campaign staff or traveling to early primary voting states, but he has now made the comment to many different news people that he is considering a run for the office. Many different people around the state are encouraging him to do this, as well as on the national scale, including fellow republican senators like Sen. John McCain and others.

33 miners waited to be rescued in sixty-six days as "Plan B" carved ino the last layers of rock. The "Plan B" drill was nearing the miners at a point 2,047 feet below the surface. The rescue team now has to decide whether its more risky to pull the miners through the rock, or to insert tons of heavy steel pipe into the curved shaft to protect the miners as their on their way up. They say it's not an easy decision to make and it will take just a few more days to get them out.

I think this impacts the society because 33 miners have been trapped for sixty-six days and the people want to get them out. They're trying their hardest to rescue them and they don't want to give up.

The president is the leader of our nation and is a symbol for our country. That is how he impacts society.

I just find it very frustrating that people who are suppose to be judging weather someone should go to jail is doing things that could cause him to go to jail. It's not easy to run for president, expecially when you come from a little known state such as South Dakota. Not only would you not really be known throught the US but its also harder to raise the funds it takes as said in the article. I think it would be great to have a president who comes from around here and who understands what the people out here in the midwest need instead of being forgotten which tends to happen.
