The United States plans to send about 1,400 more Marines to Afghanistan this winter, a U.S. military official told CNN Thursday. The Marines will support the expansion of its security efforts in southern Afghanistan, and they will be on the ground for only a few months.
i think that we need to do this to help end the war faster because if we r going to be there we might as well be opushing the taliban back.
the one with baby 2011 is saying that he doesnt want to talk to himself wen he gets older like 2010 because there were so many bad things that happened in 2010 people are just hoping 2011 cant get any worse which is why i agree for that reason

President Obamam has kept the Bush era tax cuts and it has allowed the rich to get richer. In the last holiday season retail stores have had a 5.5% rise in their sales. The upper class people are having alot of extra money while everyone is complaining about the economy is going down hill like it has. spending with wealthy famialies has increased.

I wish i could be the people who had all the money in the world like that. If there was any way to, i am sure we all would go for it. I think that there should be more giving to less fortunate famalies in the United States instead of spending all that extra money.

The political cartoon is interesting. I am sure that the meaning is that the bills and the accidents of the last year have repeated themselves alot and the 2011 baby is wanting to be different

My current event is about military spending. The military takes up a lot of the nation’s spending problem and Robert Gates has been defending any cuts to the military’s spending. However, recently he has been looking at not spending $13 billion to buy amphibious vehicles for the marines.

I agree with my political cartoon because it’s saying that a lot of bad things happened in 2010 and that we are hoping that the same kind of things don’t happen in 2011.

My current event is called Ruling lets California police search your phone without a warrant. This story talks about that if a person is arrested then the police can check your texts and emails to see what you have been up to. They can also look at photos and their address book.
I do kind of think that this might be cutting into our privacy a bit but also think that it can be used for good. If someone is like a drug dealer and they are texting other people then the police can find the other people and catch them too.
My political cartoon shows a guy standing on the diving board of a pool saying Not quite as it was advertized. It shows a bucket of water in the pool. This is saying that some things just aren't advertized as they really should be.

i think that it is good that they want to expand security. but it is also not good that we are going to have more troops over there. because there are more chances for more people to get killed.

This will have it's own ups and down ahead of them. there will be some people how agey and disagery. with them throw the the hole thing.

My political cartoon shows that just because its a new year doesnt mean that our old problems go away. I agree with it because to get a better new year we first have to fix the problems of the old one.

My current event is called Republicans Change the House Rules. This change in power will result in refinement of the way things are done in the house. For example, there will be slight revisions to things such has how to make a bill. They are also pushing the use of technology in the House and pushing the public to use more technology.

I think that my current event shows that we are finally getting some of the change that we have been talking about fo so long. I dont know if its the right change but at least its something different than what we have been doing. With all this new technology I understand that its more "efficeint" but I wonder if it will creat more problems than it fixes.

Michelle Obama arrived in Marbella, Spain earlier this week for a private trip with 9-year-old daughter Sacha and longtime family friends. The trip has put the first lady under scrutiny by many who feel that it is unfair for Mrs. Obama to vacation while the rest of the country struggles financially.

I think this is completly wrong. She is spending our tax dollars to vactation. They want us to charge and pay for the national debt while she vacations in Spain?

We are paying so older people can live, for the most part. We have retirement funds for this kind of thing not our kids paying for us to not have to work. If we want to retire we need to prepare to retire!

My article is about how the House plans to repeal the Health Care Plan. It talks about how they were warned that if they do, it could send our country back into skyrocketing health care costs etc.
I dont agree with the Health Care Plan mostly becuase i think its dumb that your required to purchase insurance when you may not even be able to afford it. I think it should be indvidual right whether or not you carry insurance.

2. My political cartoon is about the homeless being helped around christmas time. I kind of agree when it says the part about them being invisible after the holidays. Its true that people seem less willing to help out people in need when its not the holiday season.

Obama is setting to sign a 1.4 billion bill of the food safety system, giving Washington a new power to increase inspections at the food processing facilities and to recall tainted products. He says it will improve health, save lives, and help Americans feel confident on what their eating.

I think this is a good idea. We need more inspections on the food because many people are getting ill, or dying. It will make people healthier.

My cartoon is about a guy shoveling snow saying this is not the job he hoped for. It's saying that there are not enough jobs for people so they have a job shoveling snow. I agree because their arn't enough jobs for Americans and not enough money to pay them with and we need to get it fixed.

My current event is about day 2 in congress and the are going to reas the constitution and the 27 amendents that make up the document.Republicans have made strict adherence to the constitution a key point in their efforts to reduce the size of the federal government in the nation. On Thursday the house is taking up first spending cuts. I think that it is important to our nation that we get the government out of everything that is happing so they can't contorl everthing we do.

my poltical cartoon is #1 i agree with it because the baby is saying that he does want to be like the old man talking to himself about all the bad things that happened when he gets older and hopes to have them all fixed.

President Obama has three of his closest "helpers" leaving him in the White House. I wonder if they feel something bad is going to happen in the near future so they're getting out now. Or it could just be that they want to move on from the White House to pursure bigger and better things.

In my political cartoon it talks about how we don't want to repeat the same mistakes we made in 2010.

President Barack Obama is shaking up his senior leadership team to deal with the new realities of his term: The era of big legislation is over, his massive re-election effort needs energy and people, and the White House is taking a toll on those who run it.

I think that it is good that the leadership has been shaken up. They have not done a good job and many people who are running for re-election are facing a very hard opposition.

In my political cartoon Obama is playing with a semi-truck that has political center on it. The other two say to let him have fun before he loses it. This is saying that Obama has lost intrest from the people.

My polical cartoon is of a little girl giving money to a homeless persona nd wishing that all the homeless people would be gone. And the homeless guy says, its okay well disappear on the 26th. And i cant help but agree because this is true. We only care when we ave a reason for the season, but why cant we treat everyday like christmas?

The government is expected to announce this week that more than 58 million Social Security recipients will go through another year without an increase in their monthly benefits. It would mark only the second year without an increase since automatic adjustments for inflation were adopted in 1975. The first year was this year

That is kind of sad because alot of people are not making enough money. But i guess the more you make the more things cost anyway so which one is better?

My current event is called Republicans Change the House Rules. The first rule they changed made all bills that are submitted for approval need to explain their constitutional authority. Bills are also now required to be posted online for 72 hours before they can come to a final vote.

The republicans taking over the house and starting to make new rules can be a good thing. They are trying to restore order and by starting off with littler rules they can grow to really helping out the US. Also, by bringing technology into this they are helping keep up with times, and that's what people like to see.

My political cartoon shows the congress of last year and how old it looked, and now the congress for this year with many freshmen involved that it will be new, but new may not be a bad thing. I agree with the cartoon that with some new faces they bring new ideas and more education.

Republicans change the House rules. How a bill becomes a law is the educational building block of every American civics class. But as House Republicans take control of the House today, they will shift, ever so slightly, that civics lesson. All bills and joint resolutions submitted for approval will be required to have an accompanying statement explaining their Constitutional authority.

Mine cartoon shows the democrates as an old donkey and the republicans and a young elephant. I think its because the republicans were elected and incontrol now.

The Chineese are on to something, something big. They are building advanced weapon systems that the Pentagon had never anticipated coming or being a threat. The fact of the matter is that it IS a huge threat. The United States Navy no longer has any radar freedom because over the last ten years, the Chineese have been building and deploying radar over-the-horizon systems so the U.S. Navy is no longer hidden by our shores, or anywhere for that matter. There is a Chineese stealth fighter that is more advanced and capable of challenging even the best American fighter: the F-22. Also, the Dong Feng 21D is something that they have been working on recently. It is a long range ballistic missle that is capable of reaching Navy ships that are out of striking distance of the coast of China. We asked U.S. Navy Vice Adm. David Dorset if this missle was intended to be an immediate threat to American aircraft carriers and he simply replied, "That's something I would prefer not to talk about."

This is something that our government needs to take into serious concern and that we need to keep our military capabilities beyong any other power.

My political cartoon is about 2011 being a better year than all of the bad stuff that happened in 2010.

My current event political cartoon is the old man looking into the empty pool at the small bucket of water. The sign says "Obamacare High Risk Pool, Full Coverage." The old man is saying "Not quite as it was advertised."

I comepletely agree with this cartoon. Obamacare has proposed "death panels" and has been known to have plans to stop paying as someone gets too old or if the government thinks the person is useless. The coverage will not be consistant or certain. Obamacare needs to be repealed for the sake of this country.

1. Robert Gibbs and David Axelrod will be leaving the white house. Obama commented and said that they have been good friends, but they are needed else where. They will both be working on different parts of Obamas re-election campaign.

I think that it is smart of Obama to move around some people. He is strengthening the whitehouse for us and himself.

2.Cartoon 2- I think that it means that the baby boomers, are going to have a hard time retiring. I disagree with the fact that it is going to be hard for the baby boomers to retire. We should all be able to retire at a respectful age.

Senator Harry Reid recently stated, "Obamacare isn't going to be repealed, GOP should get a new lease on life and talk about something else." He made these statements during a house hearing when some represenatives talked about repealing it.

I feel this is utterly sad. Most average, red-blooded American citizens DO NOT want Obamacare. Just because some stupid liberal congressmen and women think they want it doesnt mean they do. Represenative Reed's statement is sad in the fact that stupid politicians aren't doing the job we voted them in for, and that is enacting laws that help the people, NOT hurt them.

I chose the 1st political cartoon. It shows 2010 all old and sad and talking to himself while the baby 2011 is all happy. I think that unless something changes, this year will end up worse than 2010 ever was..

"God has more important things planned for her," a longtime adviser says. The suspect's former teacher says, "I was scared of what he could do." Gabrielle Giffords' ability to communicate is encouraging, a doctor says. Federal authorities have leveled murder and attempted murder charges against the suspect.

I think that is very good that they have got her stable and that she is able to communitcate with the doctors. Another update that I heard was that the doctor's are waking her up every once and awhile to make sure nothing bad is going on and to see if she can still communicate with the doctors alright.

Sarah Palin is being blamed for being a cause of the shooting in Arizona. They are saying that the shooter was a fan of Sarah Palin and used things that she said as a reason for why he did this shooting. The man was a lunatic and that is the reason for the shooting. There is no evidence towards it being a part of Sarah Palin's ideals.

The evidence clearly points to the fact that this man was mentally unstable. He had a history of agressive behavior where he would become red and clench his knuckles during class. He had numerous conspiracy theories and seemed to just be out of it. I believe it is unfair to drag Sarah Palin into something that clearly isn't her doing.

In my political cartoon there is an old man representing 2010 in a hot tub with a young fellow representing 2011 seated next to two females. The one girl says, "I don't think he is leaving." meaning that 2010 wasn't the best year, and it will be looming over our heads for a while.

the pentagon and cheif of staff are lobbing with china to stop notrht korea from attacking south korea and starting a huge war. china is telling the north to watch what they do. then america stands by the fact that if an unprovoked attack is perpatraited the south has the right to retailiate.

this is a bad situation because if they go to war we have to back south korea and china has to back the north. this meaning it could possibly be another world war who knows. that is the last thing we need is to loose human life but on the upside every war we entered has pulled the U.S. out of a recession.

i chose number 7 because it says that the stuff that happened in 2010 isnt going anywhere anytime soon so we are stuck with it. i agree with this a lot of bad stuff happened so i know that's gonna stick with us for many years to come.

South Dakota lawmakers do not want to increase security. The lawmakers say that if someone wanted to hurt them it would be almost impossible to stop them. Daugaard says, "You really would have to undertake some pretty significant changes, expensive changes, to guard against that possibility." The Highway Patrol is in charge of the security, they are seeing if there are any changes that they can make.
I do not think we really need to worry about the lawmakers security. But I suppose that is what they all say until it happens. If they were to increase the security I am not sure what they would do to accomplish it.

Kristi Noem promised South Dakota that she would vote to repeal the Health Care Reform Bill during her running for House. Her promise was fufilled, and the repeal passed in the House. People say it is very unlikely that Senate will even take up the measure. She said that her first speech on the floor supporting the repeal of the health care reform was a little overwhelming.

I think she did a good thing by sticking to her promise. If she wouldn't have I'm sure there would have been many people at her back, but she probably wouldn't promise something she wouldn't fufill. I'm not suprised by her vote and people should count on what politians promise them.
