sd lawmakers ended this sessoin this year by passing a vetoed bill. the governer vetoed a bill that will limit the co pay payed out to chiropractors and other certian doctor visits in an attemp to keep taxes low.
well at least they are doing something out there. They know that they cant just do everything the governer does. i dont think that it is bad that this happed it just shows different people had differnt views on topics
Obama on Libya: "We have a responsibility to act"
On monday night, Obama announced that NATO would take command over the entire Libya operation-keeping his pledge to get the U.S. out of the lead fast. He is trying to prevent the slaughter of civilians. Obama says "we should not be afraid to act"He said that transferring the NATO would leave the United States in a strong supporting role.
I think this is good because the United States is trying to help out the other countries that aren't as stable as us.
The United States is beginning to pull it's forces out of Libya. Several of the ships have moved away. There still is firepower there as tomahawk missles can still be seen at night time.
I think this is good since I didn't necessarily think we should have gotten involved in the first place.
My current event is called President focuses on needs of Latino students in town hall meeting. In this story they talk about how we have to educate Latino students so that they can graduate and attend college. Since Obama wants to out-educate he also has to involve the Latino's because they play a key role in the United States today.
I do think that these Latino's should learn English if they want to live in the United States. One problem that they are having is that these Latino's are only reading at a 1st and 2nd grade level but still plan to graduate from high school and attend college. Schools can only teach them so much English, they just have to practice it more at home.
Concussions have been a big topic in sports this year. Last Thursday Governor Dennis Daugaard signed Senate Bill 149, known as the concussion bill. Now athletes, coaches, and parents will have to follow concussion guidelines because it is a South Dakota Law. It requires coaches to pull athletes from competition if they suspect a brain injury and the athlete can not return until they are cleared by a medical professional.
I think that this is a good bill for South Dakota to pass. Alot of people compete in sports and there is always the danger of a serious injury. Concussions happen alot and now this will keep the athlete from making the wrong choice to keep playing.
In a town hall meeting about schools and eduction, Obama focused on the needs of Latino students. He said they're going to make up a great part of our future work force but aren't getting the eduction they need. Their parents are immigrating and putting them in public school systems where they don't have proficient enough english to do well in classes and meet the standards for high school graduation.
It's good that he's noticing our weakest points in education and taking action on it, but the US is falling behind in many points. We need to put more emphasis on education in general.

i agree with this because as long as we keep our noses out of there government we will be fine. we just need to help inocent people stay alive.
Obama is defending his decision to send the US to Libya, he acted to "prevent a massacre." He said that the US involvement would be limited. He did it to prevent massive bloodshed in Libya.
I think it is good for us to help out the other countries, but I dont think that we always need to put ourselves in their business. Sometimes they just need to sort things out themselves...and this may be one of those times
New Rules Would Label Millions of American Workers as Disabled. The Americans with Disabilities Act, originally passed the definition in 1990 and was updated by Congress in 2008, first defined disability as "a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits a major life activity." Before they changed the definition of disabled there was around 40 million people covered by the ADA. That number is going to increase.
I think this will help people that have different disabilities to be able to get jobs easier so they can make a living too.
the US Govt. has not yet ruled out arming Lybian rebels in order to help them overthrow Muammar Gaddafi. Gaddafi has shown no inclination to stand down as Leader of Lybia despide pressure from the international community. feirce fighting in Lybia continues with casualties rising on both sides.
Muammar Gaddafi seems like a very dangerous and insane individual and shouldn't be in charge of a country. i will support whatever it takes to get him to leave his seat of power.
On Monday Obama gave a 28 min speech talking about invading Libya, he talked about making sure he does start something that will create another war, but will make sure we dont send to little so that it will be a catasrophe. He wants to stop Libya's violence but he doesnt want our own civilians getting killed.
I think that we should not get involved with Libya because we are already in another country trying to help there. We should work on getting all our troops out of other countries first.

**I agree with what they said in the story which was that the U.S. doesn't need to be able to fire as many Tomahawk missiles. The missiles aren't need as much now and so that the ships have the capability to go to other spots where they are needed.
The Army on Monday apologized for any distress caused by recently published photos of American soldiers posing with dead Afghans, calling their content “disturbing” and “in striking contrast” to the Army’s standards and values.
The Army issued a statement in response to graphic images that Rolling Stone magazine posted on its website on Monday — about a week after the German news magazine Der Spiegel published three of the photos.
It is never right to pose with dead people. I know the Army is against it but in a sick way, hunting for them and posing with their kills is no different then people with deer or animals. Yes it was wrong for them to do but i am sure they have great reason as to why they did it.

Abortion Law: Next Steps
South Dakota's new abortion law goes into effect July 1st.It will require women to seek counseling with a pregnancy help center at least 72 hours before having the procedure.The Alpha Center in Sioux Falls plans to register with the state department of health as a pregnancy help center.
Some think this bill is taking away women's rights, but I think this is a good bill to encourage pregnant women to talk about their decision before going through with something they may not want to do.

Huntsman's bro: 2012 might not be the year
Republican Jon Huntsman have all but put together a presidential campaign. his younger brother says that 2012 might not be the best year to run. whether that means a campaign later this year has not been decided. "He is interested at some point," the younger Huntsman said of his brother's presidential ambitions. "That's not necessarily in 2012." ""There is a real need in this country for a politician who can have a focus on economic progress and economic development and deficit reduction," he said"
it is saying that huntsman might not run for president or he might run a little later for president. And that 2012 might not be the best year to run for president.
Abortion Bill
South Dakota's new abortion law will go into effect July 1st. This bill will require women to seek 72 hours of counseling before having an abortion. The counselers will talk to the woman about the other options.
Some women do not have knowledge of all the other options and feel like an abortion is the only way out. Some women are also pressured into having an abortion, which is sad. At the end of the 72 hours, women will still have her rights to do what she wants.

i belive this is good and bad. good that were standing up for the lybian people, bad were involved in another conflict.

I completely agree with the law because sometimes women go into it blind sighted and don't know what they really want, and then later they regret their decision. Talking to the counselors will help them know all the risks and everything before, and so that the women will know that it is THEIR choice to do it or not and no one can pressure them into making a decision they don't want to.
Donald Trump is going after Obama about his birth certificate. Trump was on Fox with Fox's Greta Van Susteren tonight on On The Record saying that he has his birth cerificate in less then an hour why can't Obama do that. He also said that he thinks that Obama is trying to cover up were he was born and having people that are covering for him.Trump reiterated his accusation that Hawaii's Democratic Governor Neil Abercrombie is lying when he says he remembers when Obama was born."I'll bet he didn't even know the parents 50 years ago," Trump said, "What he's doing is taking a bullet for the party."
I think that Trump is right because you have to be born in America to be President and if Obama can't have anyone prove that he was born in America then he should not be President. That is why Obama has had people try to cover but we as America want to see evidence that he is legal.
Tonight I found that the leader in libya bombed a hospital 3 times France is also planning the thought of starting air strikes to help out the people. Then to add insult to injury is Obama's top security guy says he thinks he will probably win the regime back anyway Obama himself made it a point to go and tell the reporters that he completely 100% against his top aid's remarks. The the aid goes and says that there is fear that China and Russia will join forces and go against the US soon.

I think this could be a good and bad thing. We just get into too much of their buisness. We could help them a little but not a lot.

This is a great idea because maybe if a woman is forced into having an abortion then the counseling could help her come to her senses if that's what she needed. Counseling is a good idea for most people as it could also reassure them that maybe what they're doing is right for them and mostly right for all situations.
Politicians in Washington started a program a while back that gave them the option to dock their paycheck to donate that money towards the debt the U.S. is in. This year only two politicians donated money to this cause. One Republican and one Democrat came up with a little over two thousand dollars towards this huge debt, which isn't even hardly a dent. Many of the politiicians don't even try to help out with this cause because the debt is so immense that they feel no donation will help.
I believe it is a good idea for anyone to donate money towards our endless debt. I especially wish famous people would donate more of their money towards a better cause rather than spending it all on fancy cars, houses, and clothes that are unnecessary. Our nation is in a debt crisis and someone has to take it upon themselves to get us out of it.
The article I found talks about how the united states input in libia is actually a lot more than the government is claiming. In his speech friday night, obama says that we are getting out of libia and turning it over to the united nations.. what he failed to mention is that the u.n. is run primarly by the United States.
I feel that this is just another showing of how the government doesn't tell people the whole truth, or the truth at all, because they have no idea on what the heck they are doing.

With these people performing this action they are going against their form of government. The people doing this are in need of great punishment. This could be even as extreme as death because they are killing innocent people.
It's too easy for presidents to go to war
Many people are unhappy about the US forces in Libya. There are democrats that are unsure the reasoning behind it. In this article it says that it is much too easy for presidents to go to war. Obama did not inform Congress well enough.
I am not sure whether or not we should be in Libya, but I do believe that the US needs to worry about its people right now. I agree with being a big brother, but the struggling people should come first to Obama and we should worry about other countries second.
Recently, the governor of SD signed the bill so that women wanting to get an abortion have to get counseling 72 hours before they can get the abortion. This makes sure that they are making their own decision and that no one else is pressuring them.
I think this is a good idea. People need to be aware of the consequences of their actions. I do however think that this is a way to stop abortions, because the counselors are probably going to try to persuade the woman to not have the abortion which is kind of the point of having the counseling in the first place, so that it is your own decision, not someone else's

I feel that this is Libyas civil war, and we should remain at a very limited role. If we get too involved, it will turn into another Vietnam war where we are fighting for decades without really knowing what for.

Obama is telling us it is America's responsibility to defend Libya.
We must make sure the government of Libya doesnt slaughter the people of Libya.
Obama: Not acting in Libya 'would have been a betrayal of who we are'
-The article outines the speech that was given by Presidant Obama, last night about what role America will play in Libya. He states that alot of it will be basic things, not alot of real fighting. He also stated that we would be turning our back on the world if we didnt act in some way.
-I think that Obama is right. I beleive that it would have made a statement about America that would ruin our already made reputation. I know, from personaly having several family and friend who are in the Military, that sometimes America needs to act and our troops are not afraid to go. I believe that America should act, but with only limited forces.
The Sioux Falls school district is cutting at least 9 positions in an effort to make up fot the 7 million dollar cut in state aid. Konrad said "The cut positions include director of instructional support services; fine and performing arts coordinator; Indian and homeless education coordinator; four early childhood administrators; and two elementary assistant principals."
I think that we cannot be cutting teachers. They keep saying how smart China is and that is because China values their education very much. If we valued education as much as we should we would not be cutting such positions.
Donald Trump is planning to run for president here in the upcoming election but a slight bump in the road might prevent him from doing so. It has been discovered by New York City officials that his birth certificate is not a true US birth certificate. It is simply a certificate from a Jamacian hospital.
I think its funny that this has happend and im glad too because trump has enough power the way it is. Also i believe it could be a trick or something because the dude is loaded and im sure he has his real birth certificate.
Libya has sent tanks to fight rebels and it has succeeded. the government plans to continue its assult.

There are many questions that needed to be answered about whats going on in Lybia by Obama in his speach earlier this week. He answered a few of those questions, but left some unanswered. Many people are very angry about the action he has taken in Lybia.
I am just glad that he finally decided to update the American people. I hope that this does not become another Iraq, and I hope he doesnt take to much action, unless needed.
Obama is getting a lot of criticism about not formally consulting Congress about starting his action in Lybia. He says that it is more than likely being moved over to allied control and that the fighting will recede in the next few days.
I agree with the Congress because this is the first time that American forces have just entered a territory on the fly and we should have strategies put into this planning first.
The controversy over the decision to use U.S. military force has gotten so intense that at a news conference here Tuesday, Obama calmly pushed back at his critics by declaring the effort to stem the humanitarian crisis in Libya has paid important dividends by avoiding a massacre of civilians.
I think that Obama need to focus on our troop who are still overseas. I blieve we should stay out of this situation until we have our own problems solved.
Defense Secretary Robert Gates today defended the U.S. decision to intervene in Libya, saying action was needed to prevent a humanitarian disaster.
I think it's important to support other countries like Libya with emergencies like these.
