This bill plans to get rid of the requirement to insurance safety rating discounts for certain older drivers. I think this is a good idea because some older people are not very good at driving and should have higher insurance then some people.

SD State Senate Rejects Joint Parental Custody Bill:
This bill would allow the judge to divide physical custody between both parents unless they can show the other one doesn't deserve equal time. Supporters say it would protect the rights of fathers to ensure equal time with their children after the divorce. But the senate voted to reject the bill. They said they were worried about restricting the ability for the judge to decide who has more access.

I think they should have passed this bill. The judge is the one that listens to all of there reasons and I think he should be able to determine who has custody. I also think it is very fair to let both parents have equal time unless the other one is abusive or doesn't deserve it which you could prove in court.

South Dakota Legislature Thursday voted to override Governor Dennis Daugaard's veto of a plan to raise license plate fees to pay for road repairs across the state. Most lawmakers say the money is needed to fix the roads because of all the bad weather South Dakota experinces each year. The House of Representatives voted to override the veto 53 to 16 and the Senate also voted to override the veto 30 to 4. Since the bill passed in both the House and Senate by more than a 2/3's vote after the governor had veto it, the bill will still become a law.

The money is needed to fix the roads both gravel and tar roads so that people are able to drive on them since some of the gravel roads were washed out after last years flooding.

Planned Parenthood says they will go and sue South Dakota if Govenor Daugaard signs an abortion bill passed by the Legislature. The South Dakota bill will be one of the strictest in the nation. The woman will have to get a minimal 72 hours of counseling about the effects of the abortion and why they shouldnt do it.

I dont know to much about abortions or the effects of pregancy on women due to the fact i am a male. I do agree from what i know that the woman seeking abortion should get counseling before making the final decision to go with abortion or not.

My current event is called South Dakota lawmakers work on budget to end session. This current event explains more on how lawmakers want to pass the buget bill before they go on their two week break. The Senate and the House will plan to vote on this $3.9 billion budget today. The Legislature earlier this week approved to reduce the size of cuts in schools and places that provide medical services.

I think that is it good to reduce the cuts stated earlier this session for schools. If schools get cut money then it will be harder for them to teach what they need. Since technology is increasing so should it increase in the school to give students more opportunities to learn.

The concussion bill is on it's way to be signed by the governor. I think this bill is great in protecting the future health of athletes who get a concussion. If he signs the bill, South Dakota will be the 12th state to have this law.

1059 revise the examination required to practice cosmetology. This bill will make it more exculsive for people to practice cosmetology. I think it is a good bill because that way you have people with more knowledge about what they are doing.

I agree with the bill. Women should have to go to counseling first, so they are aware of risks, and to know for sure if they want to go through with it because maybe someone is pressuring them into doing it. They should have the right to say no! I don't agree with abortion to begin with, but this bill is a GOOD thing.

hb 1055 prohibit employers from restricting employees who are volunteer emergency responders in their response to emergencies during working hours.

I think that it is a good idea because with out volunteer emergency responders some town would not have help right away so it is a to allow them to be there when they are needed.

SD Senate Rejects Joint Parental Custody Bill
Published: March 8, 2011, 12:30 PM

Senate voted 20-13 against the bill. this bill will not have a impact on promote joint parenting."The bill would have created a "presumption" that judges divide physical custody between both parents unless one parent waives custody or proves that the other parent doesn't deserve equal time with a child."

South Dakota Legislature, override Governor Dennis Daugaard's veto of a plan to raise license plate fees to pay for road repairs. The fees will increase over two years raising a total of $31 million to pay for road repairs. I think this will be good because there are alot of roads that need alot of work, the only way this can work is if we raise the money in other places such as the license plate fee.

Dennis Daugaard has said he likely will sign off on the new abortion guidelines that would be some of the strictest in the country. They would require women to wait 72 hours before going through with the procedure and to submit to counseling about why they shouldn't.

Women may not be educated on knowing what they are getting themselves into when they get an abortion. There is long-term risks that women should be aware of before getting an abortion. Planned Parenthood should not sue South Dakota, because if they think that abortion is a good thing then sending women to counseling won't change the women's mind. I'm glad Dennis Daugaard is not letting any of the threats from Planned Parenthood alter his final decision to sign the bill or not.

I think it is a great idea to start focusing on the roads because they need attention. Although, liscensing fees are very costly the way it is so i disagree with raising them. I think that road constuction crews are very expensive and need to lower their rates.

House Bill 1161
prohibit the use of certain photo radar speed detection systems and of certain photo monitoring devices to detect red light violations.
I think that this is a good bill because many times there is a story behind the reason you ran through the light. Whether that be you slid through or could not stop in time for the red light. You can explain to a police man, not a camera.

There is a bill that is waiting for the governor to sign that would force women to wait 72 hours and have counseling before they get an abortion. This makes sure that no one is persuading them to make the decision, that it is their own choice.

Well, this didn't say to have a current South Dakota Legislative Bill, so I'm going to comment about Wisconsin.

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2011/03/11/walker-signs-stripping-unions-collective-bargaining-rights/

Here, Wisconsin's Governor Walker has signed a bill that strips unions of their rights. This was passed by the house and the senate with 14 democrats missing somewhere. I beleive that this is a good thing. It ends the weeks of protests, and with them, the damage to the capitol that has already racked up a bill of milllions of dollars. Unions were probably needed when they were first formed, but now are just dangerous and power-hungry. I beleive unions do need to be broken up, and when they are, the country will benefit greatly.

This article talks about how the "planned parenthood" group is planning on suing the state of SD if they pass the law regarding abortions in the state.

I think this group needs to just leave well enough alone. The bill isn't outlawing abortions, it is just making sure that women have been talked to before they make choices regarding an unborn child and their body..

Planned Parenthood is sueing the State of South Dakota over the new Abortion Bill. They say that it is an outrageous violation against the Constitutional rights. Dennis Duagarrd is likely to still sign the Bill.

I think it is ridiculous that the Planned Parenthood is responding so immaturely to the proposed bill. The Bill does not ban abortion it just makes it so people have to recieve counseling before recieving the abortion to be sure that these females are aware of all the repercussions of the decision they are making. Planned Parenthood needs to get over themselves and get over it.

The final budget bill has passed through the house and the senate. The republican house says they did not come here to do the popular thing, but to do what the right thing and they have done that. The schools cut was set to a 6% cut.
I think the 6% cut is good for schools. Since everyone is getting cut, schools are lucky that they got cut 4% less.

Parents are feeling nervous about the 6.6 percent cuts that the legislation voted in. A mother from Mobridge says that in a small school cuts like this are going to do damage. Because of the recent state tournaments she also mentioned how the cut will affect athletics and how small schools will be able to fund a trip to state.

I am glad that they lowered the cuts to 6 percent, but im not sure there should've been any cuts at all.

The Governor signed a bill that makes it legal for sobriety programs to use a ignition locking system. This law will make the people have to take a breathalyzer test before they can start their vehicles. I think this is a waste of the government money because there are many different ways around this and will end up costing more than it is worth.
