My current event is called, "Obama Takes on Critics of His Tax Cut Plan, Says Compromise is Unavoidable"
Tuesday President Obama stood up to Democratic critics who have "blasted" him for his compromise with the Republicans on former president Bush's tax cut reform. In a hastily called White House press conference, the president added that if he had refused to compromise with Republicans, "We'd be able to feel good about how sanctimonious we are and in the meantime people wouldn't be able pay their bills because their unemployment insurance has run out. That can't be the measure of how we think of public service. That can't be measure of what it is to be a Democrat." President Obama was not going to apoligize for nothing. He stood up and defended himself for reaching a compromise with the Republicans.
For once I do have to give President Obamam some credit. He is starting to show us that he is willing to reach a compromise with other political parties for the good of us citizens. I was shocked to learn he did not decided to take away the bill and make everyone have to pay more taxes. He does understand there are many people out in the world that are barely making it through with their paychecks and others that can't even pay their bills. It was good to see he does have a heart and is willing to not just side with his Democrat side, but is willing to work together for the common good.
Elizabeth Edwards, wife of John Edwards, died at the age of 61 on Tuesday to a lengthy battle with breast cancer. She thanked her supporters on Monday by posting this on her Facebook page:
"The days of our lives, for all of us, are numbered. We know that. And yes, there are certainly times when we aren't able to muster as much strength and patience as we would like. It's called being human. But I have found that in the simple act of living with hope, and in the daily effort to have a positive impact in the world, the days I do have are made all the more meaningful and precious. And for that I am grateful. It isn't possible to put into words the love and gratitude I feel to everyone who has and continues to support and inspire me every day. To you I simply say; you know."
John Edwards, a former North Carolina senator, was by her side with other family members at the Chapel Hill home despite their public split after 30 years of marriage. John Edwards had an affair and fathered a child with a woman whom he hired to be his videographer on his 2008 presidential campaign.
Elizabeth Edwards went on to publish a memoir and do a speaking tour that included a retelling of his confession to her. She also focused on reforming the country's system of providing health care toward a single-payer process designed to serve all.
This woman showed tremendous strength and courage through the loss of her son in 1996, her battle with cancer, and the split from her husband when he had an affair and fathered a child in 2008.
My current event is called “Obama slams GOP, calls tax deal politically realistic." Obama is keeping his promises that he made when he was running as a candidate. He is trying to do what is right for the American people by not having taxes increase for middle class Americans on January 1st. He is making sure that the average American can still afford their rent and put food onto the table. I think that this is a good thing to happen. The president is looking at things in the eye of the average American and has probably seen families struggle. Another thing that is good, is that he is keeping his promises and if he hasn’t accomplished them, he says that he is working on it or that he has tried to accomplish the promise. Sometimes when people are running for office, they don’t always keep their promises that they made during the election.
My current event is about Obama and making a deal on tax cuts. Obama is trying to re-center himself before the 2012 elections, he says. Obama also says he needs to win back the centrists and independents that he lost in midterms. Obama is going to have to reach out to the Republicans to get more votes in the election.
I think this is a good way for Obama to get out and start to re-center himself again. He has good opinions, but he needs to reach out to everyone on his deal on the tax cuts to make a big change.
After winning by more than double digits on several of her past elections, Stephine Herseth Sandlin had a tough opponet to run against. After losing to Kristi Noem, Stephine Herseth Sandlin is not really saying what she will do. She has not really said if she is going to run again in 2012 or not, but she has not said no.
I think she will probably stay in politics and run for something in 2012, wheather it is running for house or for another position. What she will do in the mean time she really has not said.
My Current event is about how Obamacare waivers have doubled in the past couple weeks. Because of the public outcry against the health-care reform, the writers are re-writing ways to not have to accept the health-care that is being forced upon us by the United States government.
I think this is really rediculous. Especially since the government is trying to force this health-care package on the American people. Seeing as how there is so much public outcry, maybe they should just repeal the package as a whole? Have they thought about that?
senate unanimously voted to impeach another judge. LA judge thomas porteous was impeached for having a gambling problem. he also obtained bribes for cases appearing in his court. he also filed for bankruptcy under a false name.
this is terrible because you cant trust anyone in politics. the fact that this is happening is shocking. this shouldnt be happening we should be able to trust or government.
My current event is on President Obama being on Mythbusters. He is doing the show because he wants to learn about Archimedes Solar Ray. the myth is he blew up ships with mirror panels. the only reason i used this current event is beause President Obama should be worried about being a president and not about being a celebrity
The house is trying to passing a new law new law that makes it a lot easier to become a US citizen. They want to make it so if a foreign person joins the military to become a citizen. The house also wants the people from other countries able to become a citizen by just getting into a US. college.
I think that this is a big problem for the US. Not anyone should be able to get into our armed forces this will be an easy way to lose security in the US. This will make it way to easy for people to do bad things to us. If they keep the way we have right now it makes it harder to become a citizen because they have to study and pass a test.
Recently Obama has pushed the Bush Era tax cuts further because he is trying to help the middle class but also he promised more jobs to us as well. But reports say that these cuts will actually make things worse.
Why would obama support somehting that opposes another thing that he supports. What he needs to do in order make a change is put the hammer down and make cuts where they can be cut and stop with this fake "stimulation" crap.
Obama predicts Korean trade deal passage; AFL Opposes pact
Obama agreement would boost american exports by $11 billion and will support more then 70,000 jobs. Obama thinks the agreement is going to pass. The Korean trade accord has support from both political parties.
This agreement would help alot with the econimy. we need the jods and the money. we need help to make are econimy better
"DREAM Act rewards illegal immigration" This bill is for illegal immigrants' children who go to college or serve in the military. He says the bill would give federal aid for college to illegal immigrants seeking legal status. Jeff Sessions feels it would send a message that the U.S. is not serious about the integrity of our laws.
I agree with the man that wrote this article. The bill isn't just for children but illegal immigrants who are under 30 and have lived in the US for 5 years. To me this is the opposite message we want to send if we are trying to keep control on illegal immigration.
Senate Republicans blocked repeal of "Don't ask, Don't tell" Thursday, significantly dimming prospects that the ban on gays serving openly in the military will be lifted during this lame-duck session of Congress.
I think that people that are openly gay should be able to serve in the army, but there are things that need to be done before they are able to. It's not fair to them, but it's also not fair to the straight people that are freaked out by gays. It is a hard thing to decide on.
The House Democratic Caucus voted to reject the president's tax compromise. The President and the Congress were confronted with an increase in middle class taxes. This will undermine the economy. "The President made a judgment and we’re going to determine whether we’ll make a similar judgment as to whether putting the economy at risk and putting millions of Americans at risk and their homes and their families and surviving or whether we’re going to play a game of political chicken." I think that this shows that the democrats and republicans are not agreeing on what should be happening.
australia is blaming the U.S. for the release by WikiLeaks of U.S. diplomatic cables and says that its Austrailian founder Julian Assange shoulld not be held responsible. Assange is currently in a U.K. jail pending sexual offence charges.he has angered U.S. authorities and triggered headlines world wide for publishing the secret cables.
these leaks to me, aren't Assange's fault but thefault o the people who posted them. is Mark Zuckerburg to blame for the creeps and stalkers on Facebook? the U.S. govenment is just upset about the leaks even though they should have kept it secrect if they wanted it kept secret.
The military should not begin preparing troops for a possible repeal of the ban on gay service until Congress takes action, despite worries the prohibition could be overturned by the courts, Defense Secretary Robert Gates said Friday.Pentagon leaders worry that the courts are more frequently ruling against the prohibition and could soon force the military to implement an abrupt and complicated change. The military did a 10-month study to assess the attitudes of service members on the matter and map out a plan to put a potential repeal in motion.
While I don't believe in the practice of being gay. I also don't believe in discrimination against them. They are people and they have rights so I hope they will eventually be able to join.
Mike Rounds is planning on cutting 5 percent of the schools funding for this upcoming year. He would like to use the money to fill in different areas of our budget for the State that are lacking.
I believe this is an incredibly stupid decision! Funding for schools is extremely important. There are rather large consequences in cutting school funding. They will start lowering the wages for the already dwindling amount of money a teacher makes or they will have to start cutting programs that really benefit the youth. I just wish people would stop messing with education, because by cutting off there learning possibilities it creates the factor of them not getting a good enough education, and the kids that are in school now are the future. Do we want the future to be filled with unintelligent adults more so than it is now? I don't think so!
House Majority leader Steny Hoyer said that the congressional Democrats had no choice but to accept the tax package President Obama negotiated even though some Democrats continue to resist. He also said that there will be an increase in taxes on working Americans if they continue to be in gridlock.
I think that they should all make up their mind for the betterment of the country and the middle and lower classes. Our country is obviously having problems finding jobs so making sure there isn't an increase in taxes should be an important issue.
Joe Miller is trying to take out the votes of which the names were misspelled even though he is behind over 10,000 votes for Alaska’s Senate. He states that he is trying to uphold the electoral process but Lisa Murkowski and her team say that they believe in every Alaskin’s vote counting.
I think that Joe Miller is a sore loser in a way and shouldn’t be trying to count out voters just because of a simple misspelling.
President Obama has brought in the big guns for solving the fate of the tax bill. He brought Bill Clinton. Obama said that Clinton was president during the best economy we have ever had in awhile and that he might be able to help. They had a week long meeting to solve the problem.
I think that it was very smart to bring in someone that has experience than trying to do it all my yourself.
The Congressional Budget Office released its score Friday on the tax plan hammered out between Republicans and President Barack Obama, showing a $893 billion hit on the deficit over the next five years. The 13-month extension of unemployment benefits adds less than $57 billion to the deficit.
I think its good that Obama brought in Bill Clinton to look at this issue as well because this is a big thing for this nation and we need as many people helping and looking at the pros and cons on this issue.
The "don't ask, don't tell" policy is thinking about being removed. 9 out of 10 soldiers said their unit's ability to work with someone they thought was gay or lesbian was very good, good, or neither good nor bad. It is also said that although many people will agree with this, many others will also disagree.
I think that gay people should have just as much right of being in the military as anyone else, if that is what they want to do. I think that people have different religious opinions, and other beliefs, that this wouldn't affect how they work or anything else. Someone cannot be fired from a job based on their sexuality, so why should the military be able to reject them?
After the comments on her page after the 2008 vice-presidential campaign, Sarah Palin was leary of using facebook. However, as of lately, her view on the site has changed. In August 2009, she accused the Obama White House of creating "death panels" as part of health care. "I find it a great way to communicate with people directly without the media filter." - Sarah Palin
Sarah has a right to her opinion as well as the right to state it on her page. However, I really don't think it will benefit her career to make false statements or statements about other politicians, that she's not sure are true, on her page. If anything, it makes it easier to quote her accusations.
My blog is about a Baltimore man being accused of blowing up a U.S. Army recruiting center near Baltimore. He attempted to plant a phony bomb indide the building and was caught by a former U.S. Army officer who served in Afghanistan. He identified himself as Muhammad Hussain and told the FBI that he did it because he wanted to kill the U.S. soldiers for killing his fellow muslums.
I think this has an impact on society because there are more and more people who are dissagreeing with what the military is trying to do and they are doing whatever they can to stop it. We are all simply following orders and we can't have civilians trying to blow us up just for doing our job and trying to make money.
When people talk about the estate tax, they may think of extremely wealthy people like Bill Gates or Warren Buffett, but the tax could have a devastating impact on the small businesses community.
Small manufacturers like a construction company or lumber yard.
The reason is that most small businesses have equipment and buildings and land -- and the estate tax is levied on all those assets.
"These businesses aren't just sitting on a pile of cash," Bill Rys of the National Federation of Independent Businesses says. "It might mean that to pay the tax, they're going to have to sell those assets off. So to comply with this tax they may have to actually sell part of their business."
Turns out, small businesses, which create two-thirds of the nation's jobs, could be gutted. And what's more, money paid in estate taxes cannot be used to create jobs.
Scott Hodge of the Tax Foundation agrees. "The estate tax essentially guts the business that their family has built up over many generations."
Family farms are even more vulnerable in some respects. They too have equipment, buildings and vehicles, but most importantly - they have land.
And Pat Wolff of the American Farm Bureau Federation explains land paints a misleading picture. "It looks like you're worth a lot of money on paper, but you're not rich, you don't have money in the bank, all your money is tied up in your business."
Land is the biggest variable. If a shopping center or housing development is built in the area, land prices can skyrocket, even though that farm land is still under cultivation.
"When a family member dies," Wolff says, "the government wants estate taxes and they want that payment in cash. If you don't have the cash, you have to sell part of your business, you have sell your animals, you have to sell part of your land."
Right now the tax is zero, but some House Democrats -- especially the most liberal -- want it to go to 55 percent.
Instead of 55 percent, President Obama proposed only 45 percent, with a $3.5 million exemption. In the end, to the chagrin of many in his own party, he compromised with Republicans on a 35 percent tax with a $5 million dollar exemption. Farm groups say, with trepidation, that would protect most of them, but House Democrats say that's the one provision of the proposed compromise they hate most.
I do not think that the government or anybody in Washington understands the way stuff works in small towns and business's. They just sit in there office all day where they never have to worry about money. We need to keep the small business alive and thriving. many towns in our area and maily in the midwest that is all the towns live on and that is all they depend on. they are the backbone of every community. we need to keep them alive and thriving
Obama signed a overhaul of child nutrition standards, saying a law meant to encourage better eating habits by giving the federal government more authority to set standards for food sold in vending machines and elsewhere on school grounds. The bill will increase the reimbursment rate for school lunches because they want to help by including more fruits and vegetables. Obama said one out of every three children in America is overweight or obese and he want to give the kids the healthy futures they deserve. Some Democrats had objected to this bill because its funded part by stripping $2.2 million from the federal food stamp program.
I think this is good, in a way, because yes, most of America's people are obese or overweight. We don't provide much healthier food in schools or at resturants. Most people don't want to eat healthy but it could decrease in the obesity rate.
U.S. President Barack Obama makes a statement about the senate vote on middle class tax cuts in Washington.
As it stands now the republican strong-arm tactics against President Obama and the Lame Duck Congress will add $900 billion to the deficit, most of which will be caused by an extension of the BushBush tax cuts for a handful of millionaires and billionaires.
i dont think that the millionaires and billionaires should get the tax cuts because they have so much money and dont need tax cuts i think they should give tax cuts to the lower class people not the really high up people.
"individual mandate" provision of the nation's new law. "At its core," U.S. District Judge Henry Hudson wrote, "this dispute is not simply about regulating the business of insurance -- or crafting a scheme of universal health insurance coverage -- it's about an individual's right to choose to participate."
I think this "new law" could be a good thing if it does give people a right to choose to participate.
"Judge Strikes Down Mandated Health Coverage; Supreme Court Review Expected" A judge in Vrigina threw down the law on the new Helah Coverage bill, say that the bill was "un-consitional". The new bill, signed by Obama, not even a week before, demand thats everyone recived and get health inssurence, no matter the coast. Obama claims that the bill will help people, because every will eventully end up in the hospital or clinic. But, not every one feels this way, many other judges have thrown the book at this new bill and cant help but complian. It is said that the bill will be in front of the Surperme Court in less tha month.
The Board of Regents will discuss the governor's proposed state budget and higher education finances Thursday when it opens a two-day meeting in Pierre.Overall, the board requested $3 million more in state general fund money for the budget year beginning July 1. Much of the increase would go to cover a pay raise for higher education. But in a report prepared for the meeting, the Office of Higher Education notes that outgoing Governor Mike Rounds isn't proposing a salary increase for other state employees so it's likely the salary hike for higher education will be removed as its budget goes forward.Gov.-elect Dennis Daugaard is expected to present a revised state budget proposal to the Legislature after he takes office January 8.
I dont really understand the reason the whole education prosess but it looks as if its doing well.My self i dont get why some things need to be higher then another.

"Judge Strikes Down Mandated Health Coverage; Supreme Court Review Expected"
A judge in Vrigina threw down the law on the new Helah Coverage bill, say that the bill was "un-consitional".
