My current event happened in Los Angeles. A 22-year-old man was charged with assault with a deadly weapon after trying to run over a woman who said no to his wedding proposal. The proposal took place Thursday afternoon at the Burger Stop. After she said no, he drove over the side walk, through bushes, and into the parking lot, just missing the lady. He was later picked up after fleeing on foot.

I think this man was obviously sad that this lady turned him down, but you should never go to the extreme of chasing after someone with your car! I'm glad they caught him and that the lady was never hurt.

http://www.cnn.com/2010/SPORT/football/11/14/new.jersey.stadium.blackout/index.html

A blackout brought the Giants-Cowboys game to a halt last night at New Medowlands Stadium. The stadium experienced two power outages in the 3rd quarter of the game. Power was lost the first time from the first feeder, they had to go to there second feeder for power. After a while the second feeder gave out and the stadium went pitch black. The power outage lasted about 12 minutes. They are still investigating the original cause of the interruption.

I think this is really weird. I have never heard of this happening in a game before. I hope they find out what the original cause was.

Five people were killed and six others seriously injured when a car struck a group of 12 motorcycles on a California desert highway Saturday.Police are searching for another vehicle that left the scene after the accident. A honda car was trying to pass them but a Dodge Avenger swerved to miss the honda and struck the motorcyclists.

People need to pay attention and drive normally and not pass motorcycles until it is safe to do so... California is full of idiots that think they can drive when in all honesty they cant

Title: Early snow hits Minnesota, Wisconsin:

A winter storm warning was in affect for Minnesota as well as portions of WIsconson. As much as 11 inches of snow have fallen since, Friday night in parts of Minnesota. The snow was accompanied by wind reaching 25 mph. At about 5pm, Minnesota State Patrol has responded to 401 accidents, 45 with injuries and dozens of flights were delayed or canceled.

Quote "The reality hits when you need to dig out the shovels, and the snowsuits and the boots." I think that is true because one day the weather could be 65 degrees and sunny and the next day the weather could be 20 below with 30 mph winds and snowy. It just goes to show that we have to be ready for any weather and that we need to be careful and smart when driving in those kind of condtions.

Cops suspect faulty Camry caused deadly crash.
Paul Vanalfen's Toyota camry is believed to have a faulty gas pedal. Officals say that the pedal stuck which caused him to run into a concrete wall. Two people died in this crash and two were seriously injured. In the past year, Toyota Motor Corp. has recalled millions of vehicles because of floor mats that can snag gas pedals or accelerators that can sometimes stick. Hundreds of lawsuits were filed against Toyota after the automaker began issuing the worldwide recalls.
I think that the whole toyota deal is bad. it has happend more than i should have. they need to find the problem and fix it. But it is not entirely there fault. To my knowledge every car has a ignition key or switch, if your going to run into a cemet wall turn your car off. Or if your car does not have a key every car has to have nutral, take it out of gear and you will also stop. It is the peoples faults to not just the cars.

Early yesterday afternoon a woman was found dead south of Ease St. Patrick Street in a drainage ditch.Kia Hardy, who lives just yards away, walked out her front door with some friends to go to a movie and ran into the scene.
"The whole car was like surrounded by police vehicles and stuff, and then there was caution tape all through here," Kia said.Kia went back inside and watched from her bedroom window."Eventually we saw them get a hard gurney out. It was like a bed thing that they had to carry and they carried it out of the ditch," Kia said.Kia's brother Derrick lives there, too, and he was quite surprised when he found out what happened."That’s a hundred feet from my house. They found her and brought her out and they don't even know what happened to her or who she is.

My current event is Ohio girl found alive, bound; no word on 3 others. Sarah Maynard went missing on Wednesday along with her mother, brother, and her mothers friend. Sarah was found alive 10 miles from her home, 4 days after going missing. Matthew J. Hoffman, 30, was arrested and charged with kidnapping but more charges are expected. Hoffman was keeping her in the basement of his house. Sarah was hospilized, but authorities say she is in good condition, but would give no details and did not say if she had been sexually abused.

I think it will be hard for Sarah to recover from this. I am glad that Sarah was found alive and in good condition. I hope they find her mother, brother, and the mothers friend in the same condition.

My current event is on current military status overseas. The article is called 4th infantry Division Assumes Control of USDN.Maj. Gen. David G. Perkins, Task Force Ironhorse and 4th Infantry Division commanding general, assumed control of U.S. Division-North from Maj. Gen. Anthony Cucolo, Task Force Marne and 3rd Inf. Div. commanding general, in a ceremony Nov. 4 at Contingency Operating Base Speicher, Iraq.

I believe in what the military does 100%. If it was not for the military we would have no freedom and the world would be killing itsself like the people in Somalia. The U.S. Armed forces have been taking control of countries with weak governments.

Kasey Kahne drove on the race track at the Kobalt Tools 500 at phoneix international raceway with a gas can stuck on his spoiler. his crew couldnt get the gas can out in time before he left the pit stall. he went one lap and the pit crew pulled it off. then he was assessed a penalty for failure to remove equipment and finished 30th.

i think there needs to be more rules in the pits and more penalties because a failure to do remove something like that could have been dangerous to the fans and the other drivers.

My current event is about Arizona and medical marijuana. By a narrow margin of about 4,300 votes, Arizona voters approved a ballot measure that would legalize medical marijuana, state election officials said Sunday.

Over 1.6 million votes were cast on November 2nd. What a close race with only 4,300 votes seperating the 50.1% yes and the 48.2% no vote! 14 other states have also passed that same bill since 1966. It says in my article that if you are in a 25 mile radius you can grow your own for medical purposes, then why have it legal for just medical purposes have it just legal!

In PUEBLO, Colo a springer spaniel was stuck over night on a cliff's ledge in a state park. The dog is ok after a sheriff went down the canyon to get the dog. The dog name was Doc and he went over a 80 foot cliff Thursday. The dog was over a 200 ft ravine.

Im glad they got the dog off the cliff before he fell down the cliff. he is one lucky dog.

My story is on how San Francisco bans happy meals with toys. The ordinance, which requires McDonald's and other fast-food servings with toys to meet new nutritional standards, says Mayor Gavin Newsom. They hope with this ban it will adopt in battling a child obesity epidemic. The new law addresses how toys and other marketing freebies entice kids to buy fast-food meals that are high in fat and calories, said Supervisor Eric Mar.

I go both ways on this. Many kids want to go to McDonald's because they get a free toy,but also just by taking the toy away doesn't mean they wont want to eat there anymore. I think the parents need to step in and make healthier choices for their children.

Police block off Ohio park in search for rescued 13-year-old's family

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio — Police have blocked off an Ohio park as the search continues for relatives of a 13-year-old girl who was discovered bound and gagged in a nearby house.
an officer patrolling overnight found items in the park possibly related to Sarah Maynard and the disappearance of her mother and brother and another woman. Thirty-year-old Matthew Hoffman was taken into custody Sunday at his home about two blocks from the park, where neighbors said he was often seen. He's been charged with kidnapping.
The four vanished Wednesday in a case that was all the more alarming because an amount of blood was found at Herrmann's home in Howard.

This is sick! I dont know why anyone would do such awful things like this. It makes me discusted to think that this is what our country is turning into. We hear so much about all the horrid things that happens in our country and world, but not much good is ever said anymore. WE NEED CHANGE!

my current event is about DUI arrest after motorcycle crashes that killed 5. A man was arrested under the suspicion of driving while under the influence after he slammed into a group of motorcylce riders head on, 5 were killed. Five hours after the man was arrested for the crime.

I think that it is a bad idea to drink and drive in the first place. If you go out and drink get a ride because the is going to be with him forever that he killed 5 people from driving drunk.

My article is about 5 people being killed in a 12 motorcycle accident in California. A Honda was trying to pass 12 motorcycles by going into the oncoming lane. He successfully passed them, but another vehicle moving in the other direction swerved to miss the Honda. That car hit the motorcyles, sending people flying. A passenger of the vehicle died as well as 4 of the motorcyclists. Many are critically injured. The driver of the Honda fled the scene, and authorities are now looking for him.

I think that something needs to be done with this. They say that the driver of the Honda may have been drunk, and that they were not blaming him for anything that happened. He should have been paying attention, and known that passing that many motorcycles was a bad idea. He caused 5 people to die and many others to be injured.

Hiroshima isnt all that shy about conversations involving the atomic bomb that hit them in 1945.
Japan and other areas around Hiroshima don't talk about the tragic event as much or at all. There was a gathering to celerberated the founding of nucealur weapons in Hiroshima not to long ago.

I thinks its amazing that even though certain areas didn't get destoried like Hiroshima they fear it and wont talk about it even more then they do. We are seeing good signs of forgivness from victims and other signs of not being trusted witnesses recently.

Sadly, a man couldn't come to South Dakota to go pheasant hunting with his family this past weekend. John Tyner entered into the San Diego airport Saturday to board a plane bound for South Dakota. What he didn't expect was to get into a fight with TSA agents about a "groin check". After submitting to a normal metal detector scan and then a pat down, a TSA agent informed him he would need a "groin check." To this, he flatly refused as so began the controversy. TSA agents all came over and started harassing him, threatening with lawsuits and eventually forcing him out of the airport. The funny thing is, this guy recorded it all onto his phone that was sitting in the bin used for scanning person objects. As soon as he got home, he posted the video to youtube and to his blog.. And now everyone is talking

I think that the guy was a genius for putting his phone in the bin recording his whole ordeal. This is just one example of how the TSA is really ineffective in doing their job. As they were searching John, many got through the scanners without anyone noticing. This could've been really bad had any of them had a bomb

My current event is about the coaching change in Dallas. The struggling 1-7 Cowboys decided that something had to be done last monday. Owner Jerry Jones acted on this disappointing first half of the season by firing coach Wade Philips, giving the job to offensive coordinator Jason Garrett. It obviously gave the team the spark they needed for this weeks game against a very solid Giants football team. They came out, and 38 year old Jon Kitna looked as if he was 24, completing many passes to Dez Bryant and many other Cowboy recievers in a big win against New York.

I think that this proves that just a simple change like this can give a team new life, and that a strong personality is needed in the NFL. Jason took charge, and had a good week of practice, even making the team have full padded practice on Wednesday. I believe the same thing could happen in Minnesosta if owner Ziggy Wolf were to fire Brad Chilldress and give the job to defensive coordinator Leslie Frasier.

Nearly 500 people in Colorado have applied for the new high-risk health-insurance pool since the program started in the state 10 weeks ago. About 430 people who already have health problems that make it difficult to get private insurance have been enrolled; 43 applications are pending.

I think this will effect our society in the way people look at health care and benefits. People need health care but how they get it is up to them.

My current event is about how a man shot his wife/girlfriend, 3 kids, and then himself. The only survivor was the youngest, a 2 year old son. This all happened after the woman had found another man and was trying to decide if she should break up with her current man.

"Twenty-eight-year-old Jamie Malanowski of Erie posted Nov. 9 on her Facebook page that she had broken up with 29-year-old Brian Dacus but wasn't sure if it was the right thing to do."

This is terrible, and shows how our society is becomming more violent and bad. If people stuck with old values that our country used to have, things like this wouldn't happen as much.

My current event is about an accident in California on a highway in Fresno involving a Greyhound bus and two other vehicles. The bus struck an overturned SUV that was in the highway's fast lane and then struck a second vehicle. All the three vehicles traveled down an embankment and the bus slammed into a large tree. Six people died and at least 34 were injured;four of them critically. The crash was "like a bomb going off, just pieces and parts everywhere." The cause of the crash is still under investigation and going to be lengthy.

This is terrible that many people got injured and some even killed. It just shows that there are terrible drivers out there that don't pay attention, so they just need to be careful and fully aware on what's going on around them when they're drving so that everyone is safe!

A 50-year-old man was seriously injured when his car collided with a moose on the Maine TurnpikePolice said Hanson was seriously injured, but his condition was unavailable Sunday morning. According to the Portland Press Herald, Hanson's wife suffered injuries to her face and hands, but the couple's 7 yearold wasn't hurt.

Issues with large animals and driving can be very dangerous. In maine large animals like moose become a larger threat to society while here in South Dakota deer can be dangerous. Their society was effected by this is drastic ways because people were seriously hurt.

My current event is about the case of Brian David Mitchell. This man years ago abducted Elizabeth Smart at the age of 14 and held her captive for nine months. So he should be guilty then, but he claims that his religion devotions made him abduct her and he finds nothing wrong with it. Now jurors have to decide if he is guilty or if he is just insane by creating his own religion and abducting Elizabeth.

I chose this current event because it is a case that I am familiar with. I think this guy is guilty for what he did. I also think he is insane but he should still have to pay for what he had done. If I had been abducted by someone, I would want this person to serve their time in prison. And if he is insane he should be treated. They should not let him go back into the streets since it took the police forever to find out what he was doing to this little girl.

A 13-year-old Stanislaus County boy was told that he could not ride his bike with the flag on his bike to school. The school then changed their mind after much controversy. The next time he rode his bike home he was followed by a parade of people on motorcycles. A military jet flyover was also expected.

I think it is rediculous that the school would say that. Now all of the sudden we can't even support our own country. Fortunately, the school realized their mistake.

On Tuesday a Minnesota teenager was charged with murdering two convienience store clerks at seperate stores in Iowa. He went into the stores wearing a ski mask and demanded money and cigarettes. He shot both of them even though they did what he said. He killed them so they wouldn't report him to authorities.

I think its horrible that this seventeen year old would even think of doing this. He must have had a troubled life. They did what he asked them to do and he killed them anyways. I feel really bad for the families of his victims.

Hong Kong, China (CNN) -- The first human case of bird flu in seven years has been diagnosed in Hong Kong, health officials said Thursday, urging the public to take precautions.

A 59-year-old woman was hospitalized in serious condition after a trip to mainland China, the Hong Kong Department of Health said.

Her illness was diagnosed as influenza A (H5), a variant of bird flu. It was unclear where she had contracted the disease. She did not have any contact with live poultry and did not visit farms while in China, Hong Kong

i think this is just another scare and not much for the U.S. to worry about. besides its not like we havent been through this once already. i think we will be alright.

Last month a group of seven men where busted and given tickets for playing chess in a NYC playground. They were in a area that was specifically identified as an area for adults with children. The arcticle says that police with bullet proof vest approached these men and issued them their ticket.

I think that this is a little out of hand and they should be more worried about far serious things instead of going all out on something that is not a huge deal. I believe that they should have one officer occationally check this out but a group of vested men is completely unneccesary.

My current event is from Minnesota. There was more than 370 crashes in Minnesota on Saturday and most of them were reported in the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area. Only one person was killed however. The roads were so slippery that people even had problems walking. Also many snow plows kept going in the ditches.

This just shows that winter is coming and people need to prepare for it and drive more carefully.

Leaders of the Marines, Army, Navy and Air Force are being asked to give their views on the Military's "Don't ask, don't tell" policy to Defense Secretary Robert Gates. They are giving their final advice before Gates releases the report November 30 on ending the ban on gays and lesbians serving openly in the U.S. military. "They will offer their views on the report and the findings and whatever recommendations they feel are appropriate to add in terms of the implementation."

I'm sure the opinions of the Military leaders will have a huge impact on the outcome of the ban no matter what that outcome is. Hopefully they will give their input based on experience instead of biased opinion. If that happens then I think whatever the outcome is will be right.

I think this is very dangerous. Just being exposed to the lead can cause problems. Im not entirely sure what would happen if they were to eat it.
